Hey you!

Welcome to my happy place.

Gold Is A Neutral gets the London look!

Gold Is A Neutral gets the London look!

Don't worry, I'm not branching into beauty and reviewing the new Rimmel mascara. You'll be pleased to hear the only thing getting a makeover is my living room. I am delighted to tell you that the Gold Is A Neutral house is representing London in Wayfair's new Style by Region campaign and has undergone a retro revival all in the name of research.

The clever folk at have taken a close look at their UK customers buying patterns over the last year and discovered that each region has a very distinct interiors style. Who knew? It turns out Londoners love all things retro and mid-century in style. I mean...this is "London baby, yeah!"...said in an Austin Powers style voice. But seriously, according to the research, us Londoners can't get enough of sputnik pendants and retro sideboards. You can see the full Style By Region rundown in the infographic at the bottom of this post and check out how my fellow bloggers and Instagrammers around the UK have interpreted their region's core style but be prepared to fall into a rabbit warren of interiors inspiration, starting right here.

As part of my role representing London, Wayfair invited me to select pieces from their huge range of home furnishings to create that retro London vibe in my living room. I always think of this room as mid century glam, and I already have two spiky sputniks (very similar to this one) overseeing proceedings so we were off to a good start.

After spending a good few hours browsing the Wayfair website for my favourite retro pieces, I made a beeline for this heavily mid-century inspired plectrum shaped coffee table and matching side table. The space age inspired floor lamp is one of my favourite new pieces and it currently has 30% off. It's a really sturdy piece and looks amazing against our gold wallpaper, not to mention fitting the retro theme perfectly. It's a keeper!

As much as I love my Beni Ourain rug, he's not very retro, so Beni had to go and I replaced him with this beautiful afghan rug in a deep red and navy, which helped to pull the whole scheme together. Just look at the detail on this beauty...and he's getting on famously with our blue velvet sofa.

With the key retro pieces sorted, it was time to focus on the details. And what retro-inspired room would be complete without a spider plant and some pussy willow? And I don't need much of an excuse to buy more plants. There's a massive choice of vases and pots on the Wayfair website and I absolutely love the Como plant pots. They come in four different sizes and three different colour ways but I decided to stick to turquoise as an accent colour. It shouldn't work, but I think the brighter colour lifts the whole scheme. This aquamarine vase is a major nod to the West German pottery style that was so huge in mid-century design.

On the coffee table I kept it simple with this House Doctor Coffee PotSugar Bowl and this sexy Bowl (its black on the outside and brass on the inside) which I repurposed as a very snazzy plant pot. And no, I didn't know Wayfair stocked House Doctor either! Seriously, you need to go and have a good nosy to see what they've got.

So that's my retro inspired London look. What do you think? Likey or no likey?
