12 times the great British High Street nailed beautiful, brass lighting this season
I have this thing with lights. It is one of the first things I think about when planning a room and it's an area where I have to admit I usually end up splurging because I can't find anything suitably statement-y and high on design on the high street. I mean, BHS was blazing a trail in that department but we all know how that ended up....
But having said all that, as I made my way around the AW17 press shows, I had a bit of a revelation. Because the one thing that I kept getting excited about over and over again was the quality of the lighting on offer. There's no doubt in my mind that the High Street has upped it's lighting game, and I, for one am delighted by the new offerings.
As I gathered together my favourite pieces for this blogpost it became pretty clear that old habits die hard and almost all of my highlights were heavy on the gold and brass. No surprise there then. Broadly speaking, the high street has gone glam for Autumn Winter with lots of sumptuous velvet and jewel colours, and the brass lighting works beautifully with this trend.
Just check out House of Fraser's palm tree floor lamp and the very Tom Dixon-esque Biba pendant...all the heart eyes! And how could we ignore that palm tree floor lamp which is priced very reasonably compared to similar styles elsewhere.
I don't think I'm alone in my gold crush so instead of trying to fight it, let's just go with it shall we? Here is my pick of the best gold and brass lighting from the Great British high street for the new season, of which a couple are currently unavailable but will be in store very, very soon. Oh and I know that Habitat chandelier is a big ticket item but it's so good I couldn't not include it. You can click on the images to buy...#enabler
